Persecution: Church leaders write letter condemning UK street evangelist

HULL DAILY – A controversial evangelist’s “negative, critical and condemnatory” style of street preaching has led nine Beverley church leaders to issue a joint statement.

Evangelist Michael Jones’ preaching in Toll Gavel has provoked threats of violence from the public, with the preacher saying he was assaulted in July and November.

Previously, members of the public have complained to police after he preached about abortion and homosexuality.

Beverley church leaders are concerned about the impact of Mr Jones’ “critical” style of preaching and the public reaction to what he says.

Churches Together in Beverley, which includes Beverley Minster and St Mary’s Church, has now put out a joint statement on social media.
