Distance great Todd Sperling, a top runner from Minnesota, ran two miles in 8:42 on a 176 yard track with nearly square corners in the 1980s. Great marathoner.

Distance runner Gary McAlpin ran 3000m in 8:27 for an older runner with a family. All-American sprinter John Beaudot was a very good relay runner as well. Matt Kolb was the first Minnesotan who cleared 17 feet and 18 feet in the pole vault. He placed third at the 1987 Olympic Festival and was the first to clear 18 feet on Minnesota soil.

Olympic Trialist long jumper Gordon Laine finished fourth at the 1988 Olympic Trials. He was beat out by Mike Powell’s last jump. All three jumpers who were in front of Gordon won medals at the Olympics. Powell went on to set the current world record.

Ed Stuart (Bahamas) was a world-class long jumper with a best of 26-2.6 in 1982.

Olympic Trialist marathoner Linda Zeman Laktasic winning the 1984 Houston Marathon.

Derek McKinley hands off the baton in the 4x100m to Gordon Laine at the Jesse Owens Track Classic at Ohio State University. Derek was a champion long and triple jumper in the 1980s.

Greg Rolle (Bahamas) was a semifinalist in the 400m hurdles at the 1984 Olympic Games and bronze medalist at the 1982 Commonwealth Games. He now works as a director for the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism.

Karl Smith (Jamaica) was a semifinalist in the 400m hurdles and ran the 4x400m at the 1984 Olympics.

Texan Ricky Cox was a 1984 Olympic Trialist marathoner and currently is involved in coaching.
